![]() So even though people are taking heavy damage from wolves, they aren't dying before the wolves die.īut it's specifically atrocious design and combat in the mistlands because of the terrain. It's just that nobody complained about it until mistlands because wolves die quickly. "Also if you're sitting there trying to parry one enemy when you're outnumbered and they're right next to you, it points to bad decision making, not poor design." Also, the spin move leaves you vulnerable afterwards if you miss the hit because of said uneven ground. And the spin move requires PERFECT GROUND for you to hit enemies around you. Groups of bugs do not stagger from a single hit like wolves do, except from the himmin afl.Wolves die in a matter of 1-2 hits, bugs don't."It's like complaining about wolves when gear-appropriate because you try to fend them off like it's a 1v1 instead of hopping on a rock." Magic makes the mistlands irrelevant, and this whole cycle will repeat itself when ashlands comes out because the people creating the game do not have enough experience to design a game properly. Like, seriously dude? Can we not connect the dots here? Melee weapons and heavy armor are a thing of the past. Oh and by the way, it costs no stamina to attack with magic. Oh, and you can shoot fireballs while jumping, gliding, or falling. A single fireball will hit like 6 seekers at once, and it will do the exact same damage to all of them. The devs are quite obviously pushing players into switching to magic weapons, as fireballs do not care about the terrain and will hit the enemy no matter what. Also, they can fly, costing absolutely no stamina to them while you are wasting your own stamina trying to climb terrain. Meanwhile, the seeker will hit you regardless of terrain. So if you swing your weapon on uneven terrain to try and fight, that is stamina being wasted for nothing because the ground wasn't perfectly even with the seeker. You have to understand that everything costs stamina. This simply isn't possible without using stamina.Īlso, nobody wants to play like they have tourette syndrome to get through the content. Like, I don't care how good you are at the game dude. You can't stutter step three seekers at once. And I've done my best to explain why it sucks. But not all of our friends will agree to use Valheim Plus or other mods. Yes, mods can address some of these issues. Up until now, Valheim has been one of the best games I have ever played.īut I am sadly, honestly, not enjoying the mistlands biome. We have all soaked hundreds of hours into the game, and happily. Cautious with inventories filled with utility items. And the HP of Seeker Soldiers and Gjall are still definitively too high. Their damage is still a little too high compared to the transition from the mountains to the plains. Even with the best stamina food, you still have to let that big stamina bar regenerate at some point.Īnd then, mobs are still a bit too beefy even after the nerfs. It is not fun to pop stamina potions like candy or wait tens of seconds at a time just to move from one rock to another. The game's vanilla stamina consumption rate makes traversing this biome a freaking nightmare, and not a fun one. It needs to be addressed intensively.Īnother point that the mistlands design that is extremely problematic is its verticality. The mist of mistlands is a very real and functionally flawed mechanic that detracts from the gameplay loop of exploration. It's one thing to have a design that sounds cool on paper. Even with wisp torches, you can barely see. The Wisplight is entirely too weak by MAGNITUDES (yes, yes, mods, more on that later). What kills it for us, though, is the inherent design of the biome versus the design and balance of the gameplay loop itself. We love the art, the biome is beautiful (with a caveat.), we love the dwarves, we love the new build pieces, we love black marble, the mobs are cool (with caveats.), the armor ruins are cool, the bodies are cool, the new tools are cool. Mind you, we have tons of the best food, tons of healing and stamina meads. One boss after another we slammed through and built an amazing village with one single community center where we all contributed and shared resources. It was out first time experiencing the game with Hearth and Home and the Caves updates. We did a full fresh play through and were having an absolute blast with all the updates collectively working together that they've done over the last couple of years. Finally got there with my friends last night.
